Heart Punch Valentine's Day Art - Version I

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Craft punches are really addictive. I just can't stop. I started with one craft punch (a butterfly). Then I got two more during the holidays (small and large tags). And now I've gone and bought my fourth one (a heart).

Since I'm giving away two craft punches for my 400 Followers Giveaway (400? Woah.) I thought I'd share a little Valentine's Day craft that you could make for just about anyone. I made mine for Alex. I know that he is really going to appreciate a hand-made gift that's got pink, white, polka dots, and hearts. But what can I say, that's just the kind of wifey I am. Heh heh heh.

This little craft is based on the 3-D Butterfly art that I already did, as well as some art from someone's Etsy shop that I saw once and loved. I thoroughly enjoy stealing tweaking other people's fabulous ideas.

Oh yeah. This is Version I. Version II is in the works.

11x14 frame from Michaels.

I bought a white, 11x14 picture frame from Michaels when they were 50% off.

Double matte from Michaels.

I bought a double matte from Michaels with a 40% off coupon.

Martha Stewart heart punch and tiny foam dots.

I used some sticky foam dots that I already had (from Michaels) as well as the Martha Stewart craft punch. (That I also bought from Michaels.)(With another coupon.)(I'm a freaky coupon clipper.)

I found a tattered old copy of one of my favourite books from when I was little. Okay, it's still one of my favourites and I read it to my class every year.

I punched out a bunch of hearts from the book, making sure to find cute words. I was going to punch out the word "stinkbomb" as a joke but I decided to stick with the cute theme. I ended up using 34 hearts with print on them and 1 scrapbook paper heart.

I arranged them on a background of white scrapbook paper using a basic grid that I made in Word.

Ooooh, I think I like it leaning up there in the front entry.

Happy Valentine's Day to MEEEEEEE Alex!  :)

  1. Oooh, you KNOW how much I love this, right??? Hmmm...I think a heart punch needs to be in my future. Unfortunately my husband does not appreciate hearts. Do you think Martha makes a 'poker' themed punch? Or maybe a 'pint glass' or 'hockey puck'?
    LOL!
Again, looks awesome, my talented friend!

  2. Very well done and I'm loving that it's NOT pink and fluffy, the book print is the perfect solution (and I was glad to see it was Charlotte's Web - love that story!). I will have to steal from you, isn't imitation the highest form of flattery?
    Thanks for the idea.

  6. I love it! I have a heart punch, and a white frame purchased for another project that didn't happen. I'll pop over to the used book store later for an appropriate book, and we're good to go! As Jaime said, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

I made one using a butterfly punch for my granddaughter's room when she was a baby. We punched the butterflies from the cards my daughter received at her baby shower. It was a good use of all those cards and sweet art for

It turned out really cool and hubby said it was worth me buying the stuff <3

I can look back at old entries if you already posted about this.

    1. The grid will print on two pages because it didn't fit on one page. So after it prints you will have to just tape the pages together.

Where the lines intersect will be where you place the hearts / butterflies / or other shapes.

      That's it!

      Good luck.

  117. Hi Sarah! Love this project. Just wanted to alert you that a site that appears to be a scraper site is pinning your project to Pinterest (it's what lead me here) and while they do link to you, their post includes multiple pictures and I'm not certain they had your authorization to do so. Here's a link: http://craftideas.bitchinrants.com/punch-a-hole-in-the/ And I know (from experience) that if you ask them to remove the content and they don't, you can report them to both Google AND flag them on Pinterest. Just want to make sure you get the traffic you're entitled to! This is a gorgeous creation. (I manually changed the link in the pin I repinned to make sure it directs here.) And if for some reason you did authorize the feature on their site, well then, you can just ignore me. ;-) Hope you had a happy holiday! -Lauren from The Thinking Closet
