♥ FAQs

How did you make your windowboxes?

Good question. I drew up a design for Alex and he made them for me as a birthday present. He told me that he would make me two more in the spring (yessssssss) so we'll post a tutorial then. Now it's in writing so he has to make them for me. Hee hee.

Did you make your burlap stockings?

Yes, I did design and make them based on inspiration photos that I stole from the web. They took forever to make but I did write and post a sketchy tutorial that you can find here.

Do you sell your burlap stockings?

While I would love to have my own Etsy shop or home decor store (keep dreaming, girl) I currently work full-time as an elementary teacher (grade two) and just don't have enough time to make anything to sell. Boo hoo. One day, though. One day.

Where did you get your brown bamboo roll-up shades?

We got them waaaay back when the company Linens N' Things was still in business in Canada. We found them during their big closing sale. We bought all seven that were left. We have two in our spare room, two in our living room, one in our dining room, and two in our breakfast room. Best find ever.

What kind of camera do you have/use?

I had a small Canon point-and-shoot for the longest time. I almost always boosted the quality of the pictures in Photoshop Elements by sharpening them, upping the contrast, and adding a warming filter (I read how to do that on the 'net).

For Christmas this year, I got the camera of my dreams: a Digital SLR Canon Rebel T1i. I am just learning how to use it. Please don't make fun of my "fancy" photo attempts. :)

What colour is your breakfast room / powder room?

We have the same colour in the breakfast room, tiny hallway, and powder room as they are all connected. We used the colour Seagrass by Para Paints which is carried at Lowe's. We used a flat finish. And we looooove it.

What brand of paint is Sweet Buttercup, the yellow you used in your dining room?

The brand was CIL-Smart from Home Depot.

Would you recommend white, slipcovered couches?

Yes, yes, and yes!!! I can't tell you how many comments I receive that I am "so crazy" to have white couches. What people don't realize is that you can bleach and wash them over and over and over again. They always look crisp and fresh (except when your dog jumps on them with muddy paws, but then you just throw them in the wash), they look great with any colour or room decor, and they are very easy to maintain. I keep a tide-to-go stick handy for small marks and when I'm noticing a lot of dirt, I just wash 'em in the washing machine and hang them to dry. On average, I would say that I wash mine about once a month. Oh yeah, and on our oldest set downstairs, after I had washed the covers about a thousand times, I went and bought new covers for about a hundred and fifty bucks. It was like we had a brand new couch again. We have the Ikea Extorp sofa, loveseat, and armchair in our upstairs living room AND in our basement. Love them, love them, love them.
