Cooper Overload

Monday, September 17, 2012

I had a few requests (from a few adorable readers) to share some pictures and / or an update on the Coopster. Okay you twisted my arm. (Secretly I want to write posts about him every single day.)

Mini-Coop is almost five months old (already!?!?!??! what!?!?!?!?!) and is as adorable as ever. He's a big, strong boy and I wouldn't have it any other way. Wait a minute, he wouldn't have it any other way. (Dude likes to eat. Frequently. As in every two hours still. Oy.) At his last doctor's appointment he was in the 90th percentile for length and 75th percentile for weight. He can't roll over just yet but he can pull himself up to a standing position if you hold his hands. It's his favourite thing to do right now actually. Then he wobbles around and kind of reminds me of Michael Jackson dancing. If you can picture it.

We totally lucked out with such a good baby. If he's fussy / grumpy he either needs to sleep or eat. He's in a bit of a phase where he only wants his mum to put him to sleep and he kinda gets a bit angry (okay a lot angry) when anyone else tries to do it. Other than that he is a curious, active, happy boy. He laughs and smiles all the time (although those moments are VERY hard to capture with an iPhone). :)

He met all the criteria to start solids a bit early (head/neck control, doubled his birth weight, interested in food, etc.) so we started feeding him a bit of rice cereal in the mornings. He LOVES it. Gobbles it up like his mom with a giant bowl of Corn Pops. (You know you're a mom when you are excited to break out the Baby Bullet to make your own baby food.)

Hearing him laugh is obviously the best thing ever. Right now we can get him to laugh by giving him airplane rides, bouncing him around, or making silly noises (think woofing and mooing).

Please keep reading my blog even though I just wrote "woofing and mooing".

I never thought I'd see the day when we started finding a bit of a routine but it kind of just happened. His bedtime is 8:00 p.m.. He will sleep for an hour or two, have some milkshakes, and then go to sleep for roughly five hours. After a quick feeding he will go to sleep for another two hours, then after another feeding he stays in bed with us and we sleep in until about 8:00 a.m. His favourite thing is morning snuggles in bed. (He told me.)(He also told me that he wants me to keep wearing polka dot socks even though they are not very grown up.)

Right now he has about three 30-40 minute naps during the day, at about 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. (Although he fights sleeping during the day like it's his job.) You should see me during nap time though. Once he falls asleep I'm like a tornado whipping around the house trying to get as much stuff done as possible.

(Is it true that some babies nap for hours straight during the day??? Ummmm, where do I sign up for that?)

People always seem to comment on his big eyes, his round, bald head, and his million  expressions (the stunned look seems to be everyone's favourite).

We just love him to bits. It's okay if you do too.

P.S. He's still not sleeping in his nursery yet. Don't judge me.

P.S.S. We got a Baby Einstein video as a gift and played it for the first time last night. After a few minutes we shut it down due to it's overwhelming creepiness. Why does the stuffed owl's head have to twist all the way around like that?!?!?!

P.S.S.S. If babies got report cards, Cooper would get an A+ for pinching and hair pulling. I'm so proud. ;)

    1. Thanks Jaime!!!

I`m telling you the video was so bizarre. Al and I looked at eachother in fright after the first few minutes and then shut it off before Cooper`s mind got poisoned. Hahaha!

    1. Well, here in Ontario we get maternity leave for twelve months. So I`m technically not working but I didn`t quit my job or anything.

      Yet. Hahaha!

So lucky to have this time with the Coopster though, so lucky.

  6. Yay! I'm psyched about this post!!! He is so cute!! Can't believe he's this big/old already. It goes by fast, doesn't it?! Lol at milkshakes, that's awesome:) Sounds like he's doing great for naps now, but yes, as they get older he'll settle into like 2 naps a day for an hour/hour and half/ each, then go down to one - Maura naps in the middle of the afternoon now for about 2 hours...she's been doing that for the last 9 months or so and she just turned 2:) The nap time mad rush around the house is the story of every mom!! So glad you are having so much fun with him:)

    1. I thought of your Maura posts when I was writing it actually! I always love to read the updates.

I am looking forward to the longer naps because I`m not good at getting things done in short amounts of time.

The ADD in me gets lots of things started in 30 minutes, but none of them finished. Haha!

    1. You're telling me!!! I look at him sometimes and can't believe how much he has grown and changed in such a short time.

It's a good thing I take all those iPhone pics then, right? Haha!

Thanks so much for your sweet comments!

  9. bless him, he's so gorgeous :-) he sounds just like my Oliver - we feel very blessed too, he's totally with Coop on the whole 'only grumpy when sleepy or hungry' thing - perfect little angel baby most of the time ;-) oh, except when teething. gagghh!

Oh and about the napping - Oliver was always a 30/40 minute napper too (see, the similarities are uncanny!) but somewhere down the road (i forget when) that stretched to about an hour and these days (again, i forget when exactly - i jut realised one day he'd been asleep for ages and panicked haha!) he sleeps for about two hours in the morning from 10-12ish and another hour around 2/3pm. it's lovely and i can bake lots of cakes *ahem* i mean clean the house :-) so it probably will happen hehe! xx

  10. He is an absolute darling and you have every reason to be proud!

His funny little frown, his big round eyes and bald head remind me of my oldest grandson at that age. I know that being a Mom is the "cat's meow" but when I became a grandmother my girlfriend said I invented Cloud 10.

Enjoy your special little bundle of joy while he's small because before you know it, you'll be wondering where the years have gone. Sheila S.

He is just adorable! I think it is so wonderful how you are such a proud mom and enjoying the baby stage. I loved my two in the baby stage( I still love them and they are 21 and 18)! There is nothing like that sweet innocent baby time when you can snuggle and love on them all you want! Enjoy every second of it!

  18. Hi! I know this post is a bit old, but I just came upon it now! You should check out The Baby Whisperer, we follow her schedule/philosophy and it works like a charm for us. My guy is 4 months this coming friday. He goes down easy for naps because I know when he's tired thanks to this schedule and he is almost SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT already! We (well me mostly) also have yet to have the guts to let him sleep in his crib at night, hes still sleeping in a play yard/bassinet type thing in our room. I am working myself up to it by having him sleep the evenings, at least until 12am, in his crib and then I take him to our room when I go to bed.

Anyhoo, I can send you a link to someone's blog who posts a lot of the baby whisperer info, including a schedule. I am looking forward to the next phase b/c I am supposed to be able to spread his feeds out to 4 hours! HA we shall see. Anyway, I really enjoy your blog. I am trying to get better at mine but I can't seem to find the time these days! Maybe you should share your schedule with me!!

    Katrina :)
