Mission Organization Part II - Camera Gear

Well hi there. Sorry if I've been MIA all of a sudden. It's just that once you encourage your baby to crawl (see my last Cooper update post) then you will inevitably be chasing him/her around alllll day and allllll night. Dude is getting into everything. Apparently crawling and pulling himself up trumps sleep. Oy. The only way I was able to get this post up was because I gave him my purse to play with and he entertained himself with my wallet and driver's license for almost an hour. :)

A long time ago I had purchased a set of nesting wooden boxes from Homesense. At the time I had no real spot or purpose for them but I snagged them up anyway because the color was perfect and darn they were cute. They've been in my dining room for a long time and housed a pretty random mishmash of stuff, primarily old magazines, our adoption binder, and some camera stuff.

I needed a place to keep ALL of my camera gear so I chose these boxes for a few reasons.

a) The boxes have lids to keep dust out.
b) They are lined with black fabric to prevent scratches on the camera equipment.
c) The lids flip up easily so that I can grab what I need quickly.
d) The boxes are kept in a central location so that I can find and use my camera quickly and easily.

The first box has just enough room for the equipment I use the most frequently: the camera body, my two go-to lenses, and my battery charger. {Note: The camera is missing from the box because I was using it to take the pictures, hee hee.}

In the second box, I keep the camera gear that I don't use quite as frequently: a flash, a small tripod, filters, my kit lens, lens cleaner, camera cables, and my old point-and-shoot.

The bottom box houses larger items: a tripod, a reflector, and a camera bag. All of the items in the larger box were previously all over the house. I'm glad that now everything is in one convenient spot.

I am loving this set up! Although with little mister motor-pants on the loose I might have to find a way to secure those boxes shut for a few months. :)

P.S. Here is a picture that I snapped with my iPhone to show you how snug-as-a-bug my little camera fits.

P.S.S. Just in case you were thinking about breaking into my house to steal my camera I have two great big (vicious) dogs, we have a state-of-the-art security system (a baseball bat), and I always bring my camera with me whenever I go out. So there.

;)

P.S.S.S. Where / how do you store and organize your camera stuff?

    1. Isn't closed storage just the best way to hide all of your junk? I sure think so. Hahaha!

  2. Hmmm, mine is all in my purse, which is quite large but certainly wouldn't hold as much gear as yours!

    1. It's only because I go there so often. Most of the time I find absolutely nothing I like.

But then it makes those 'finds' just a little more special. Hahaha.

    1. Thanks Julie. It definitely helps not having to run around the house for everything every time I want to take a picture!

I hope some cute boxes find there way to you someday. ;)

    1. Oh MAN. No Homesense? I think I would die.

      Just kidding. Sort of.

Are you in the States? I think the equivalent store might be Homegoods?

  9. cute but just wait... your little man will discover the boxes, learn how to open the latch and boom!! there goes the camera! They learn what not to mess with way too quickly!

  10. awesome idea to keep it together and out of the way....I do agree that you had better watch out for Cooper if he pulls a box down on himself...well baby first camera second needs to be looked after. You will never be able to sit down for much now...you want them to crawl but when they do...they are into everything. You should get baby locks on your cupboards (particularly underneath kitchen sinks) and make sure you fill a draw which is low to the floor in the kitchen with lots of tupperware and a plastic big stiring spoon so when you are in the kitchen cooking Coops has one draw he goes to pulls everything out to bang and play with it....it beats trying to stop him from going into every cupboard...Good luck with it all....it's hard work keeping up with them. 11. Let me start by saying I love your blog. I have been following it for some time now. In response to the comment you posted, I think that you do post new things all the time. I am quite impressed with all that you manage to do and having a baby on top of all that is amazing. I have three sons and know what its like to try and get everything accomplished, you end up always being last, its just part of motherhood. Always remember that we can't please everyone and that there will always be someone who makes a nasty comment about something you do or don't do. Perhaps they have no idea what goes on in your life or anyone else's busy life for that matter. Keep doing what you're doing, its perfect the way it is. Best Wishes
