Big Boy Room Ideas + A Big Purchase

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

Almost five years ago, back in February of 2010, I painted horizontal stripes in one of our spare bedrooms. At the time we were heavily invested (emotionally I mean) in our Ethiopian adoption process. I was so gung-ho to paint those stripes - just hoping and wishing to start our family with a sweet little boy or girl from a land far away. Sigh. International adoption in Ontario moves at the slowest pace of all time. Just sayin'.

Fast forward to today. We've got Coopaloops in our teeny bedroom and Little Diego on the way. We're still on the wait list for adoption (with no end in sight) but we're running out of room! For now,I've decided to move Cooper into the empty, stripey room. I don't have the heart to paint over the stripes though, so I'll be working with those in my little design plan. :)

Here's what I have so far:

I know it's nothing too exciting but I think it's a nice, neutral start. I can always add some colour and interest with a quilt, pillows, wall art, and toys.

Since I was basically out of commission for the past 3 1/2 months (brutal morning sickness + my gimpy leg) I'm kind of running out of time to get things done.

So, when Restoration Hardware Baby advertised that everything in their online store was 20% off I went ahead and ordered two items on my wishlist:

It's the Millbrook Iron Bed and the Henley Stripe Duvet Cover. Since I just love the lamps that I bought from RH, I'm super duper excited to get these items in the mail next week.

And three cheers to me for deciding on something quickly for once. A due date deadline certainly helps!

What do you think of my choices so far? Any other suggestions for the Coopster's new room?

  1. Love love love that bed and that bedding. I have a similar pinstripe set on my bed from West Elm. It's a classic look and love the plans you have for the room. And, excuse me, little Diego?? Congratulations Sarah!!

    1. Thank you, Jen! I've always loved your bedding from West Elm. Okay, I would pretty much drool over it. I agree that it's classic and can be paired with so many other styles and colours. Yay!

  5. Hi Sarah,

I love your plans for Cooper's room. I have a three year old boy. I found that his toys and treasures added all the colour needed, so your neutral base will work perfectly.

    Congrats on Diego!

  6. I love your choices and I think everything will be able to grow with him for years. I redid my 10 year old's room about 2 years ago and it would have been much easier if I had gone more classic and neutral when he was transitioning from a baby to a toddler. Your room is going to be beautiful!

  10. I don't think you've ever done ANYTHING I have not loved. Beautiful as always. Do you happen to remember which paint colors you used for the stripes? They are the perfect neutrals! I'd love it if you'd share! :) thank you!
