Coops Turned One, My Neck is Sore, and My Fabric Swatches are Finally In

Friday, May 3, 2013

Oh hi. I'm still alive. But you can call me robot girl from now on because I can't turn my head to either side and I've been walking around like a total freak show. It huuuuuuuuuuuurts. After a week of excruciating pain and looking like a fool, I finally hit up the chiropractor and he literally snapped my neck all over the place. It was horrible. But it seems to be working because I'm finally feeling well enough to write this blog post tonight. Woot!

Cooper likes to climb and eat chairs instead of sitting in them. ;)

Cooper turned a year old last week and we had a nice, big party with all of our family here (25+ people). At first I think that having a party is going to be so much fun but then reality hits and I get super stressed out. I cleaned the entire house thinking that our guests would be inside and then suddenly the forecast changed from snow and rain ALL of April to sunny and hot on the day of the party. We did a mad scramble to get the patio furniture out of the garage and to get the deck and yard somewhat presentable. There just wasn't enough time to do any raking or big spring clean-ups beforehand. It all worked out though. We got Coops one of those sand / water tables for his birthday and he's been playing with it (a.k.a. eating sand) all week!

Fabric swatches from Fabric.com

The fabric swatches that I ordered finally came in after two weeks of daily, stalker-ish trips to the post office. I thought that once I saw the fabrics in person I would immediately know what direction to go in with our living room cushions. However, I'm still undecided. I'll explain more and share some pictures in a separate post.

I'll fill you in on what's been going on around here, I promise. It's just been super, super busy. To top it all off, our beloved Roary almost died the night of Cooper's birthday party and had to have emergency surgery in the middle of the night. His recovery is going well but he's still not out of the woods yet. We are spending as much time as we can with him as it's pretty much a miracle he's still alive. I'm off to bed (at 9:30 p.m. on a Friday night, holla!) but here is the cutest picture ever of our first baby:

And I don't know how I would ever pick from those fabrics. They're all awesome.

    1. The good news is that the pup is doing great. He's into all kinds of mischief now which is a good sign. :)

I'm having a hard time choosing the fabrics. Somebody HELLLLLLLP!!! Hahaha.

  2. Oh my goodness, I hope Rory recovers and gets well soon. Fingers crossed on this side of the ocean.

Happy birthday to the adorable Cooper!!

And personally I like the stripes + polka dot combination, with maybe one of the birds. I heart stripes. :)

    1. Hey Olya! So nice to hear from you!

Roary is doing great, thank you so much for the concern. :)

I'm with you on the stripes. I'm obsessed!

I just had to share that Alex just got me a Canon 6D for my birthday yesterday. AHHHHHHHHHH! I still remember the day you came over and let me play around with your fancy camera. :)

      Hee hee!

  3. Coops is one?!? How did that happen? (Could he be any cuter?). I understand the party stress - gets me every time!

The fabrics are great! I too, have been a fabric hoarder lately, going to my favorite fabric store many times the past several weeks, in search of inspiration!

Hope your pup is on the mend. What a sweet face!

    1. Girl, I have NO IDEA how that happened. It was like a blink, seriously.

Great news about our pup, he made it past the critical 7 days past surgery. Woo hoooooooooooooo!

  4. Oh, really hope your Roary gets well quickly. So sad when our pets are unwell. Never underestimate the power of good upholstery! I have learnt this over the years! So I understand the big decision you will make on the fabrics. Went to see a prize home today and what really made a simple, large rectangle-shaped house stunning was the fabulous upholstery - bedheads, throws, ottomans, curtains, dining chairs, cushions etc - it was "wow" with the lovely softest colours in botanical styles. Bliss!

    1. Thanks, Petra. Roary is doing great and thanks for leaving a message about him. :)

I am so jealous about all of those soft colour fabrics you mentioned. They are so hard to find around here!

  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COOPER!!! I was thinking about you guys the other day and thought about him turning one soon...thought I was wrong, but I guess I was right. I'm glad you're able to stay home a few more months...:-) Your fixer-upper is coming along great!! I'm looking at old homes right now and may need some advice here in the near future (I hope at least)...;-) Wish you lived closer, as much as I love color and decorating I have a hard time picking colors/fabrics, too!!! I'm sure we could help each other out!!! Enjoy the wonderful weather!!! :-)

    1. Aw, thanks Jaclyn. :)

I'm hoping to share more updates from The Fixer Upper now that we've got the bathroom over there almost finished.

I love the idea of helping each other out with the fabrics. I always, always second guess myself. Hahaha.

      Whereabouts are you?

  7. Happy Birthday, Cooper!! Can't believe its been a year since that sweet little guy was born! Are you sad baby phase is over or excited about toddler hood? Do we get to see/hear more about the party?! Poor Roary, I hope he's ok!! And hope your neck is feeling better.

    1. Thanks, Sarah!!! I'm kind of sad about the baby phase but I am also loving the age that he is at right now... so curious about everything and wanting to explore. He's still pretty snuggly so that's helping! :)

I'm afraid there's not too much to share about the party, I made two cakes and put a wooden truck on top of one and called it a day. Hahaha! I'm way too much of a procrastinator to do anything fancy.

Heh heh heh. Hope you're feeling well and can't wait to hear your awesome news in a few weeks. Yay!!!

  9. Hi Sarah. Happy belated birthday to you and to Cooper! Glad to hear that Roary is doing better. I was sad to hear he needed surgery. As far as the fabrics I like the stripes, the bird and the first gray (Suzani?) under the stripes. But really they are all very pretty. And Cooper looks absolutely adorable in that chair pic!!
    Regards, Haydee.
