As I mentioned in my last post, I was having a really hard time with my old, crusty laptop. Basically it was on the fritz. One very smart reader advised me to replace it before it crashed and died for real. I took her advice and brought my computer-nerding hubby on a Friday night date to the computer store.

Again, I was torn between getting an all-in-one computer (super big monitor for editing photos + cute workstation) or another laptop (so portable and convenient). After much debate and discussion I finally decided to go with another laptop for now. I really love being able to use my computer any and everywhere. I'm all over the map most of the time so the computz needs be to all over the map with me, ya now?

I ended up choosing this beauty:

It was more than we wanted to spend but it had a few little extras that Alex and I were looking for. It has a larger (17") screen for easier photo editing, higher screen resolution, and space for an extra hard-drive for my ten thousand and one picture files.

And it is silver not black. Score, score, score.

The reason we went with the higher resolution screen is because we are going to get an extra monitor, keyboard, and mouse (when they are on sale around Christmas time) and set them up at a workstation for me. I'll have to plug in my laptop but that's no biggie. I'm so excited about having a functional machine again. Plus, I'll still get to set up a cute little work area in the breakfast room. Oh yeahhhhhh.

Along with the excitement comes frustration. All of a sudden I feel totally computer illiterate. Windows 8 is tricky, yo! I'm sure there is a learning curve and I will eventually learn to like it but it took half an hour just to figure out how to turn it off. And tabbed browsing? More than two hours of googling and finally Alex's help to figure it out.

It will take me longer than I thought to get everything installed and transferred over (Lightroom, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, etc.) but I can't complain about that because hey! I just got a kick-ass new computer!!!

And now I can finally get back into my old habit of having 40 tabs open at a time (blog reading, hello!) without the whole thing crashing every two minutes. Yay!

Alright, I'm out. I did some baking today and tried another Pinterest recipe. Gooey Nutella Butter Cake.  Mmmmm, cake.

P.S. I miss my blog. Is that weird?

  2. I set my laptop up as a workstation in my office on the rare occasion that I need to work at a desk and it's the most convenient option out there. I too like to do my techy stuff all over the house and would hate to be tied down to one room/chair.

My husband has been wanting to get me a new laptop for the past few months but I'm not sure I want to deal with Windows 8... how do you like it so far?

  3. Most of my home computing can be done on my iPad but I do miss a desk and my super awesome recliner...I mean office chair. I'm glad to see you came up with the idea of a monitor and keyboard as i was going to suggest it. give yourself room to set it up so you have room to display both screens (extended mode). You will be in dual monitor bliss! They are great for just about any type of computer work.
