Vintage Pie Plate Collection Part I

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Move over, Martha. I've got a pie plate collection now, too.

Even though yours is waaaay bigger than mine.

At least I didn't go to jail.

Although that would be really petty to say out loud.

So this whole idea was sparked when I found two old pie plates in the basement of a barn. I knew I wanted to start collecting them but wasn't sure how I was going to display them.

I came across Martha's picture and decided I wanted my own mini version of a pie plate wall:

Al and I searched high and low for some pie plates in and around Ottawa and Montreal during our summer vacation, but with no luck. I ended up ordering two plates from an Etsy seller and then I found two more on my last mini road trip.

And THEN, the two nicest, sweetest gals ever just up and mailed me the last few pie plates to complete my first little collection. Like, who does that!?!?!?! In real life?!?!?!?! Just mails gifts to people they've never met for no reason other than kindness!?!?!?!?

So a huge shout out goes to ♥Dawna♥ from That Country Place for mailing me the tiniest, sweetest pie plate I've ever seen (along with some delicious smelling homemade soaps).

And another huge shout out goes to ♥Claire♥, my fellow adoption mama, who mailed me not one, but FOUR beautiful, vintage pie plates from waaaay across the country in British Columbia.

Girls, I might have had a tear or two when I opened both packages. So nice I'm telling ya. So, so, so nice of you. :) :) :) :) :)

So this morning I traced the plates onto some newspaper and eyeballed where I wanted them to go.

I found some stuff at Home Depot called picture mount tape. Since the plates were pretty light I though I'd just stick 'em to the wall.

I taped a row of the double-sided stuff on the back of each plate. Pretty easy if you ask me.

I thought this arrangement worked well on the tiny wall between the window and the window frame mirror in our breakfast room.

I love the character it adds to the room.

Yup, I love them.

Here's a look at them up close.

And even closer:

If you're wondering why this post is called Vintage Pie Plate Collection Part I, it's because I still have a few more plates to put up on a different wall. I'm going to do another tiny collection on the other side of the window once I find a few more. And the hunt continues........ :)

P.S. I think I lost my mojo for awhile but after an hour on Pinterest this morning......... I'm ba-aaaaaack.

  9. Yahooo!!! I have been waiting and waiting to see what you were going to do with them! It looks awesome! So glad you liked them! They were mailed from BC, but were actually bought in California Wine Country...Healdsburg, really. So you can imagine some 40's or 50's American housewife baking pies for her family with them! I'm excited to see what your next display looks like! And I'm wishing I had a spare wall!!
