Three of My Old, Chippy Finds

Thursday, June 2, 2011

Last weekend I mentioned that I brought home a few finds from the Christie Antique Show. I was finally able to snap some pictures of them!

I was looking for brackets/corbels so that I could make my own shelf for the breakfast room (I wrote about the breakfast room here, here, and here). The prices for corbels at the show were pretty ridiculous. So when I saw this little shelf with thick, chunky brackets (at a decent price) I knew I had to have it. What I also like about it is how wide the actual shelf part is. It'll be great for filling up with, you know, stuff. The colour of it right now looks absolutely hideous with the wall colour in the breakfast room so it will be getting a makeover asap. Prob'ly white. (I know, what a shocker.)

I was also looking for a low bench to place under the four botanical prints in the dining room. Some of the benches I came across were too plain, some were too long, and some were just too expensive. I thought I found the perfect one but it was already sold. Boo hoo. Finally, I came across an odd-shaped bench and thought it would be cute with a little TLC. The price was right so I went for it. Except that in a great big field it looked like a small bench but in the house it looks more like a table. Oh well. I'll have to find a new spot for it.... I'm thinking maybe under the window in the stripy nursery.

I was also on the hunt for a ladder. I have three possible spots for one but haven't decided where it's going to go yet. I really liked the grey and white colour on this one. I also really liked how it gets narrower at the top.

Oh and yes that is a tealight stuck under the bottom of the ladder. Our floors are that crooked.

I still have a few more finds to show you but I wasn't able to get pictures of them tonight. I also want to show you the inspiration pictures for my finds. We'll see if I can get any of these pieces looking as cute. :)

  11. You could always cut the bottom of the legs on the bench/table so that it would be the right height. It's a great piece and would still look super cute with shorter legs.
