Stripy Springy New Cushion Covers

Sunday, February 13, 2011

I've been looking for new cushions for our living room for-ever. Every cushion in this poopy town is either too shiny, too bright, or too traditional. Good luck trying to find anything remotely cottage-y or with light, pastel colours. I've seen a few cute turquoise cushions at Homesense recently but I don't have anything else turquoise in our house.

I've also been looking online at fabrics. It's just way too hard to pick colours online. Finally I made up my mind that I would go to our local outdated and crusty Fabricland and try to find at least one fabric that I didn't mind. I knew the chances of finding a fabric I actually liked were slim to none.

Then I came across some drapery fabric that was striped, light-coloured, and kind of crinkly. Fun. I was hesitant at first because of the hints of brown in it, but then I thought it could tie in nicely with some of our wood picture frames, rattan sunroom furniture, and bamboo blinds. Plus, the fabric was 50% off so I only paid $4 a metre. Score!!!

Sewing the envelope part.

I had never sewn an envelope pillow cover before but I thought it was time to learn. Um, they were so much easier than I thought!!! I whipped up two of them in no time flat and probl'y could have done a few more but I had to skip out and eat several helpings of cake at my cousins birthday party instead.

They turned out really cute and I'm going to make a few more (larger ones) after work tomorrow.

Both the stripes and the colours remind me of spring. I also really like how the colours tie into the picture over the loveseat in the living room.

Yeah!

Have you found any cute fabric lately??? If you have.... send me a link! I'll be your best-friend.........

  1. Love that fabric! When I saw that pillow, I knew it was exactly what I wanted. I guess I'll have to go on a fabric hunt myself. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Oooh, I love your painting. My place is art-less because I can't decide on (or afford) anything.

I love this fabric store on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/skyerevefabrics

I haven't bought anything yet, I agree that it is super hard to shop for fabric online!

I have no idea what I would do with them, but aren't they the cutest? My favourite is Strawberry Fields.

  10. I'm so glad you found a fabric you like in your "poopy town". :)
We have a hard time finding fabrics here, too. The only place to buy fabrics here is Walmart or a high priced sewing shop, and neither place has a very good selection. At least not a very good selection of anything I want.
The fabric you found is really pretty, and you did a great job on your pillow!! The colors are pretty, and I love the stripes!
Hope you have a wonderful day!
    Beth.

I did actually buy some really nice fabric this weekend which you can find here: http://outofours.blogspot.com/2011/02/pretty-packaging.html

It wasn't for Valentines specifically, so it's intended use is still to come.
