25 Things

1. I am amazed at how many of you dear readers took the time to wish our family congratulations on little Ninja Baby. I just LOVED reading through your comments, advice, and cute stories. You make me laugh. And you make me want to give you all a great big hug. Thank you.

2. Alex goes outside and starts my car for me every morning before work. The neighbour just mentioned to me that I have my very own car starter. I think I’m a bit spoiled.

3. Fruit and vegetables that have marks or bruises or mushy spots weird me right out. I always have to watch Alex when he’s making a sandwich or salad because I’m sure he tries to sneak the creepy veggies into my lunch and dinner.

4. I’ve watched all six seasons of Sex and the City four times already from start to finish. Enough time has passed that I’m ready for round #5. In fact, one of our top 3 baby names came from one of the characters on the show. Can you guess which one?

5. I went to Costco after work tonight and bought a few groceries: bread, lettuce, cherries, grapes, oranges. Then all of a sudden I popped a box of 16 gourmet cinnamon buns into my cart. SIXTEEN!?!?!? What was I thinking?

6. I’m not a fan of the colour red. I own one red t-shirt that has white hearts all over it. It’s for Valentine’s Day at school when everyone wears red and white.

7. Alex asked me to be his “girlfriend” on Valentine’s Day a bazillion years ago. It was only our second date. He liiiiiiked me. He wanted to daaaaaaaate me.

8. I am contemplating moving this blog over to Wordpress soon. The Blogger commenting system really bugs me. I want the fancy comments like some of the fancy blogs out there. I want a fancy blog, I want a fancy blog!

9. I hate wearing dresses. Hate.

10. My wedding dress was ordered online from J. Crew. It was cotton and cost less than $150. I loved it even though I hate wearing dresses. If you convince me I’ll post a picture of it. ;)

11. Roary’s nose has gone all pink except for one little black spot. I call it his Cindy Crawford mole and I always photoshop it out of pictures. He’s self-conscious about it. He told me.

12. I am NOT a morning person. It takes everything I’ve got in me to get myself out of bed every morning. I’m pretty grumpy until I’ve been up for at least an hour and have had a coffee.

13. Many of my work days are spent having conversations about why it’s not nice to call someone a “poo-poo head”.

14. I’ve been saving up for a new camera lense that is way expensive. I really just want to go and buy it on my credit card and use it in secret. Alex doesn’t need to know about everything I do, right?

15. I don’t like cartoon shows or movies (except The Little Mermaid). The characters voices are always super annoying.

16. I’ve been lucky enough to visit 10 countries so far: The States, Mexico, Jamaica, The Dominican Republic, England, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy.

17. My old roommate had a cat that cuddled me to death during the day and then attacked my face when I was sleeping. I never knew when it was coming. I’m still traumatized.

18. I only ever buy vanilla or cookie scented candles. Mmmm, vanilla. Mmmmm, cookies.

19. Alex and I go shopping to Home Depot and Homesense pretty much weekly. He drops me off at Homesense, goes to Home Depot and gets reno stuff for the house, and then picks me up when he’s done. It’s a great system. Except I’m sure that the entire staff of Homesense thinks I’m a lunatic who stalks the store by herself at least once a week. I want to wear a sign that says: I’m not shopping by myself, I swear!

20. I’ve been trying to grow my hair long for the last 10 years. It’s so fine and grows so slow that it’s been the same length for the last...... 10 years. I secretly curse all my friends who all seem to have the thickest, fullest hair of all time.

21. I don’t want to be a teacher for the rest of my working days. I love the kids but the job is tough. I love when parents join me on a field trip and after 1 or 2 hours tell me they have no idea how I do it all day. My answer is usually, “I have no idea either, lady.” ;)

22. I miss sleeping on my stomach.

23. It surprises me when I chat with people about adoption and they tell me that they could never love a child that wasn’t “their own”. My little adopted baby will be “my own” and I’m going to love and smother that kiddo to death. Just sayin’.

24. Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds are really good actors. I really admire their acting abilities. Wink, wink.

25. I’ve surprised myself with how much nonsense I was just able (and willing) to share. :)

Alright, your turn to share your 25 things. Let me know if you do, I'd love to read your version.

  2. I love reading lists of random things! I'm a primary teacher (still searching for the elusive Ontario contract) and can completely relate to #6 - just bought a red shirt to prepare for future "Red Days", #13 - I really hope you teach Kindergarten! and #21 - Field Trips were always a real eye opener :O) I wish my husband would leave me to wander in HomeSense while he runs our usually 2-3 times per weekend trip to Home Depot/Lowes/Rona (and sometimes ALL three). I'm a once-a-week stalker too!!!

  6. Congrats on the little ninja bun in the oven. I love your 25 things - especially the random HomeSense shopping that you take part in weekly. I'll have to see if I can think of 25 things and do a post.

p.s. we NEED to see the wedding dress photo.

Please show us your dress. I would love to see it.

    I hate wearing dresses too!

    Congrats on little Ninja.

  8. I have 2 bio kids and 2 adopted kids. Love them all the same and they all drive me nuts the same. No difference. Just saying.

  9. P.S. Please please post a picture of your wedding dress. Really want to see. And want to convince 3 daughters that wedding dresses do not have to cost thousands!

  10. I would love to see your wedding dress! I've never watched Sex and the City except for bits and blobs. You're not naming him Mr Big are you?

  13. I was a Kindergarten teacher for years. Got the same comments, thought the same thing. That's why I'm not doing it anymore! There are advantages to going into school leadership...especially when little Ninja gets a little bigger. He'll be right there at work with you. Give it some thought. :)

  14. Oh I thought I was the only one ... I can't watch anything that is animated ... it just creeps me out!

  15. Yes, please - wedding dress picture! I love browsing the JCrew dresses when my catalogue comes. I wore a silk faille creation of theirs for my sister's wedding in 2006, and still wear it for any formal occasion for which I can find an excuse (it's such a simple design in espresso brown, that it seems it can be accessorized a thousand ways and worn again and again).

    Also hate mornings.

No idea about names, as I have never watched a full Sex & The City episode...but from previous posts...I'm the type who would definitely choose a name like Stanford!

  16. I would love to see your dress! I got mine for about the same price, including the alterations. I bought it on ebay, but I really wanted my bridesmaids to get dresses from J Crew... (long story)

And a fancy blog would be dreamy. Maybe I should consider switching too... I haven't had the time to really make my blog look the way I'd like.

  17. SATC is my FAV!!!! I was thinking Aiden or maybe Brady...?

  18. Wow, I seriously thought I was the ONLY one who:
    *hates HATES to wear dresses
*gets dropped off by husband at my stores while he goes to Home Depot-weekly
*has a husband who spoils me-starts car for me, drives me around & drops me off/picks me up at door, pumps gas for my car.
*Grouchy for at least an hour or so upon waking. I don't drink coffee so it takes me a little longer to become ungrouchy ;)
*love vanilla candles even though most people I know are tired of them.
*my wedding dress was only $100. My daughter's was MUCH more expensive. We have 3 "kids" - she's the only girl...my parents had 6 girls = inexpensive wedding dress. I still loved my dress. (Please show pic of you in your dress! Would love to see it)
Congrats on ninja baby & baby that you will eventually get to adopt. I know you will love them equally!

  19. Loved reading these. I think it makes us all feel a little more "normal" when we hear other peoples stuff. I would love to see your dress too. I got my dress as a runway sample. It was dusty and gross but for $30 I couldn't pass. Now only if it hadn't cost $150 for dry cleaning. I also agree on the Ryan Reynolds. He is a FANTASTIC actor;) Can't wait to hear baby's name. I specialize in baby stuff.

  20. I linked up my own thoughts - #76!

  21. Umm I think your life sounds just a little adorable and I want a husband like yours! (don't let my hubby hear that....unless it will make him moyer like yours, lol! ) and I also agree that I don't understand why people think they wouldn't love adopted kids like their own, I guess those are the ones that shouldn't adopt! Well I found your blog though Shaunna's link party, and I'm your newest follower! Would love for you to stop by!

  22. It's Charlotte...I just know it, 'cause we are kindred spirits, and that name was on my list for ages!

Would love to see your wedding dress!!

I head ya about work. If I have to tell one more of my kindies to take their hands out of their bums, I will lose it. I am forever lysol-wiping stuff and using hand sanitizer. I don't know if I have another 20 years to get my full pension...I would much rather sell coconut daquiri's on a beach in the tropics than wipe the snot off my jeans 3 times a day for the next 20 years. I like dresses, but I am soooo cold all the time that I only wear them in the summer.

  24. My Winners/HomeSense store marks down every Friday. And since I figured that out, I go every Friday afternoon. I am postive that the employees roll their eyes at me as I stalk the clearance racks, right after they go through with their pricing guns!
I also LOVE SATC.... I'm guessing Adrian or Brady?
