Following Up on a Few Things. And Thank You.

Friday, May 2, 2014

First of all, from the bottom of my achy breaky heart, I want to thank all of you for all of the supportive, encouraging, and down-right flattering things that you had to say after I shared this post.

I received over 100 replies via blogger, Facebook, and personal email. Many of them from readers who had never ever left a comment before. I was amazed, and incredibly grateful.

There are people out there who read this and actually like it?!?!? (Awkward happy dance.)(Probably The Carlton.)

I wish I could have responded to every single comment. Instead, I will respond by:

1) Saying THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) Informing you that we are now besties.
3) Inviting you for a walk to the corner store to get chocolate popsicles.
4) Sharing an adorable photo of a cute kid in our ugly, imperfect kitchen.

So how about I follow up on a few things, m'kay?

Master Bedroom Mirror

I shared in a previous post that after visiting Crate and Barrel I was having non-buyer's remorse about not purchasing their Frisco mirror.

Frisco Mirror - Bottom Right
Source: Crate and Barrel

I thought it would add a little bit of softness to all of the hard lines we have going on in our master bedroom at the moment.

I also thought it would compliment the large, wooden mirror I picked up from Homesense a month or so ago.

After getting paid for a few little freelance articles (woah does that sound weird or what) I had some extra spending money burning a hole in my pocket. And then the mirror went on sale. And then the mirror arrived on my doorstep.

{Alex asked me why we needed two mirrors. I told him that one of them was to actually use and the other one was to look pretty. I'm almost positive he rolled his eyes at me.}

The colour isn't as dark as I remembered it in the store but it's still really pretty and provides some nice contrast. I can't take a picture of the whole wall because I haven't made the bed in two weeks and the duvet cover is lost in a basket of clean but unfolded laundry - possibly forever.

So here is just a quick snapshot of the new mirror leaning on our sock cabinet (Alex's sock collection is out of control).

Basement Fireplace Tiles

Awhile back I shared a picture of our basement fireplace area.

I mentioned that we were trying to find some tiles that would work with our existing gas stove. Since that last post we have gone ahead and chosen the tiles, ordered them, and picked them up!

Alex hasn't installed them yet but it's still exciting to think that it could happen soon. Here are the tiles we chose.

Despite the weird colouring in my photo, the above tiles are a light grey colour with the look and texture of old wood. They are awesome. We are going to use the small, brick tiles in the fireplace surround behind the stove. We also ordered these tiles in a large, square size for the hearth which will (hopefully) be flush with the flooring.

We ordered only three of these large, reclaimed-wood-look tiles. They will be used around the front of the fireplace surround and the mantle will be built around them. We had to leave some clearance between the mantle and the gas stove so these tiles will do the trick while still looking like real wood.

So those are my little updates for today.

Thanks for reading and just being awesome in general.

Okaybye.

    1. Thanks, Kate! I thought I would really struggle to find some rustic-looking tiles but the local stores in our city have really gotten better over the last few years. We found these on our very first tile-shopping adventure. :)

  2. I love the reclaimed-wood-look tiles you're using. Could you share the manufacturer's name?

PS - I LOVE your blog too. And that meany who posted that nasty comments clearly has been sucking on too many lemons.:-)

    1. I will absolutely share the name of the manufacturer. I just have to get hubs to dig out the invoice tomorrow. He's out partying tonight while I'm at home watching America's Next Top Model. ;)

P.S. Thank you, you are a dear. :)

  3. So, I admit....I've never posted on a blog before, ever. I felt I needed to comment on yours. I love your blog and yep, I must confess I do get a little disappointed when I click on your blog and I don't see a post, but it's only because I love your style, wit, and honesty and want to read what's new. That being said, don't give any more thought to the folks out there that can't help but be negative. You have a lot of people who love your blog.

    1. THANK YOU SO MUCH for commenting. I feel honoured that I was your first one, hahaha. :) It really is a great motivator to hear that people are reading and looking forward to posts. That being said, let's see if I can maybe write another one this week. ;)

Not to be guilty of plagiarism, I could almost repeat word for word what lil'monkeysmama posted. I, too, have never posted a comment. I also feel exactly the same way as she stated about your blog and your writing style, and I, too, was appalled at the comment by the meanie. And I look forward to your posts, and I always know that when they come they are definitely worth waiting for! I much prefer quality to quanity, so don't let some jealous reader discourage you from what you do. What you do on your blog is great in every aspect, and I personally enjoy your tone, your content, and your style both in decorating and in writing. P.S. I only posted as anonymous because I don't fit any of the other categories!

  6. Love the mirror. Thank you for the idea. I've done a number of professional interior design projects for clients, but I learn from you. You have a marvelous sense of balance and style, and I love how you use great design standards, but then add a bit of whimsey or something that's just a click left of center that completely removes any hint of stuffiness. Great tile choice! Thanks yet again for a fun read. Keep it up.... please!

    1. Elaine, what a flattering thing to say. I often pretend in my mind that I am good at interior design but most of the time feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. LOL.

And no-one had commented to say that they liked the mirror so I started having doubts about my choice. Phew! Thanks for sharing that you like it!

  15. Just wanted to add my two cents worth--I normally never comment on blogs, but I want you to know I LOVE yours and only have a couple decorating blogs in my favorites and yours is one of them. I love your style and copy it all the time. I completely understand not having time to post with a little one in the house (and what a blessing to have THAT as a reason for no time!!)--and it's always a bit like a 'present' when I see you've put a new post up!

  17. Hi Sarah!
So, I was gonna paint our bedroom pale grey blue like SW Sea Salt or something.
But I absolutely love the serene-ness (is that a word?) of the walls in your bedroom.
What is the color in your bedroom, if you don't mind me asking?
(If you've listed it someplace else, I missed it, sorry!)
You inspire me to keep only those things that are meaningful and loved :)
Blessings to you as you make your home!

Hi Sarah, I'm just read the comment that was so rudely made. I can't believe someone would be so terribly unappreciative of a person out there blogging at their own free will. I find it difficult to find time just to serve a decent dinner some nights, not to mention running around to different sporting events, school activities, play dates, Doctor's appointments, church functions, work, grocery shopping & cleaning. Sorry to comment myself...you are probably so over this by now, but "Wow", I'm just shocked! What an incredibly self serving comment she made! Allison xoxo
