I have never met Michelle Theer and only learned of her story
through one of the many true crime books I have read. After reading
this outrageous one sided account of what and how she was accused
and convicted, I felt compelled to speak (scream) out. As soon as
these officials found out Michelle was having an affair they felt
comfortable with their opinion that this also made her a cold
blooded killer and they never left that comfort zone. These
officials were hell bent on having someone pay for this horrific
crime which is understandable, but blinders were on and opinions
formed from the beginning that were set in stone.
After forming opinions and making accusations these officials out of
arrogance and pride were not willing to admit or even think of
stepping off the path they had set out on. I cannot comprehend the
fact that this jury convicted Michelle without reasonable
doubt....this case is built on doubt alone. Unfortunately in
this day and time many, many people are committing adultery and as
human beings most of us at some point in our lives have made the
wrong choices or done something considered immoral.......does this
make us all cold blooded killers??.. are these officials involved in
Michelles' case killers also due to the immoral way they handled this
case? WHAT IS JUSTICE?....I haven't seen it here. I'm looking at
this with an open mind and have seen no compelling evidence, just
doubtful evidence that any small minded person could form an opinion
on. I wish Michelle the very best on her appeal this fall.
Sincerely,

Before anyone decides a case or
serves on a jury that will decide a
case, they should have first hand
experience of what it feels like to lose a loved one to a lengthy
prison term. How would they feel if this was their son or daughter?
Think about it and pray about it because what goes around
comes
around. If not in this world, in the next.

Hi Michelle,
I just wanted to let you know...that I believe that you are 100%
innocent. I am currently reading the book about your ordeal and it
just blows my mind the way that the police and detectives handled
your case. If there was anything I could do from this part of the
world, I would do it to help you out. I will do what I can and let
everyone know here in Canada what is going on in your situation.
Hopefully, my word of mouth will make somewhat of a difference.

As a legal consultant to lawyers handling pro-bono
cases in Chicago, I became aware of this case against Psychologist
Michelle Theer. This is a classic example of a so-called justice
system that in an ongoing basis perverts an individual’s right of
non-prejudicial due process.
This is a poster case that exposes any
remaining myth of the U.S. legal justice system being honorable,
fair, and a seeker of actual justice. The adversarial system of
justice in America pits prosecutors attempting to gain a conviction
at all costs and through whatever means, against in all too many
cases, public defenders who clearly have an overload of cases.
It is truly amazing how government entities can
always find money to build more and expand current prisons, but just
cannot find the funds for more qualified Public Defenders.
Typically, a defendant has one Public Defender taking on a cadre of
prosecutors who have a blank check to create any case they can then
sell to a jury.
In Mrs. Theer’s case, the prosecution had clear
evidence through recovered emails that she had terminated her affair
with the convicted former paramour, but this was not what the
Prosecution wanted to jury to know, so they were left with the only
weapon they had. That being, Mrs. Theer’s having an affair to begin
with. To win, the prosecution’s case had to be entirely based on
assassinating Mrs. Theer’s character. Finding her one fault, and
exploiting a woman’s human weakness during a period of martial
stress, when her husband was also straying from his marital vows.
This became a high profile case because the
prosecution wanted it to be. The prosecution’s mantra became, ‘Damn
the concept of justice, there are big time promotions on the line.’
Mrs. Theer was an accomplished woman in her field who also found
time to freely assist low income people, which didn’t set well with
envious prosecutors, and a judge who did his best to hinder her
public defender.
I hope everyone who becomes of aware of this legal
travesty can find it in their souls to make a contribution of some
kind to the legal defense fund that has now been set up on her
behalf. This case needs to see the light of a new day in a
courtroom where a private attorney can expose the State’s flawed
case against her, and fight the here-to-fore pernicious legal
sentence imposed upon her.
Best of luck to you Michelle !!!

"I've known Michelle for several years. I'm sorry
it hasn't been much longer. I truly feel there is a void in my life
for the times I've missed knowing her. Michelle is a decent, caring
and loving human being incapable of a single hateful thought or
feeling. It's tragic that she was railroaded into prison by a team of
prosecutors who could care less about sending an innocent woman to
prison and by jurors who never heard Michelle speak a single word in
her own
defense. Hopefully, the Court of Appeals will realize how her rights
were trampled and come to understand the total abuse of justice and
shoddy treatment she received at her initial trial.
Dr. Theer was convicted because of a vicious and vindictive assault
on her character by the prosecution, the United States Army and the
United States Air Force. Their motive in this case was conviction at
all costs, regardless of her innocence. Her trial was a legal
mugging of her single defense attorney and his assistant by the
governments inexhaustible resources. The prosecution admitted that
she never shot her husband, and yet, in order to place her in prison
for the rest of her life without parole, they slandered her character to a degree no
less horrific than a brutal gang rape. She never spoke a single word in her own defense and she was convicted
solely on the basis that she knew the stalker who followed her and
her husband to where the crime took place.
Michelle has never been the cold, cruel person the public has been
led to believe. Her compassion and dedication to helping others and
improving their lives began as a candy-striper in high school and
continued until her husbands death. She has volunteered in Adult
Literacy Programs and respite care for the handicapped; worked in
homes for the developmentally disabled; counseled sexually abused
children, combat veterans, rape victims, college students and
neurologically impaired adults. She served our country with honor
and distinction in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Most of all, she
is an innocent human being who is being unjustly incarcerated for a
crime that she did not commit."

I attended the recent Appeal Hearing for Michelle Theer held in
Raleigh on Tuesday, November 14th. The hearing was open to everyone
- everyone except Michelle Theer. She wasn't allowed to attend her
own hearing even though she is incarcerated at North Carolina
Correctional Institution for Women, a ten minute ride across town.
The press set their cameras up behind the State Attorneys in a
biased show of support for them. The State immediately began to
regurgitate the same sexual details and character assassination of
Michelle. It was a re-run of the original trial. Their forum was,
forget the lack of evidence - lets just focus on the aspects of her
affair. After all, that's what the press were there for,
right?
To this day, I shudder at the thought that someone can be sent to
prison for life without parole without being able to say a single
word in their own defense. Michelle was told by an agent of the
court not to testify. Therefore, the Court told her not to testify.
Pretty scary if you ask me. It could happen to any of us when you
stop and think about it.
In reality, jurors are customers and the prosecution and the defense
are sales people. Whoever gives the best pitch wins the
deal. However, in this case, we are talking about the life of a
young and wonderful woman - not a product. In the original trial,
the State called on a jail house snitch for testimony that had absolutely
nothing to do with the case, but rather, to slander Michelle. The
snitch has since been released from prison - what a coincidence!
Michelle's attorney and his assistant were outnumbered by the United
States Army, the United States Air Force and the State of North
Carolina. Not fair odds if you ask me.
One juror said after the trial, had they heard from Michelle, their
decision might have been different. The prosecution even lacked
total confidence in their case to convict Michelle since they
offered her a deal of 7 to 10 years. She rejected it. I
recently visited Michelle in September of this year and asked her,
"If you had it to do all over again, would you have taken the deal?"
She said, without hesitation, "No." Would a guilty woman
say that? A guilty woman would have taken the deal. Dr. Theer
is a decorated veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm who served
our country with honor and distinction. She does not deserve
to be locked in prison for the rest of her life.

"Having been recommended
this website and reading through it, I felt compelled to write.
Michelle's case is unfortunately not unique in it's ludicrous nature
as we can see from the daily public court dramas that play out in
the news across the country as well as the many private ones that we
never here about. I have hope that Michelle's case will be won
quickly, as there is a fellow human at stake, but I am also
skeptical of the "the right to a speedy and public trial" and the
due process being afforded her given that terms like 2 years or 90
days when they involve someone being locked up in prison seems less
then speedy and a less then impartial process. The law and which is
supposed to protect us and instill order has faltered and has ruined
Michelle's life even if she was released today. Anyone with an
arrest record, let alone a conviction (even if turned over), will
have a hard time recovering a sane working life or the right to vote
again. She is but one of many reasons that a reform on a more
humanistic level is required for the USC and associated state codes.
She should stand as an inspiration to continue to march on our
capitals, pound down our representatives doors, and provoke a
sustained change in our legal system."

"I cannot believe Michelle is guilty of this crime. I believe
Michelle really did love Marty.
The thing that struck me the most was the compassion shown towards
her family and her pets. The concern she showed for everyone in her
life, even as her life fell apart, was amazing. Taking care of her
sister and her mom when she was at her lowest, showed incredible
fortitude. Wanting to make sure her pets were taken care of also
showed a remarkable compassion."
"Please forward the fact that there are people behind her that only
know her from the media.
Yes, even as bad as they have portrayed her. I am convinced
that Michelle got a raw deal on her trial. The only time I was on a
jury, as the foreman, the fact that the defendant remained silent
WAS a big deal in the conviction. I would love to see justice
served. Please, do not give up hope."
