I purchased an old chippy bed that tested positive for lead. I would recommend buying Lead Check. That might help you decide what to do. I got mine at the home improvement store.

I love the corbels. I like them in hallways of old houses. About the duvet. It is called baffle box construction and stops the feathers from all gathering in one corner.

I think the corbels look great.. and I'm not just saying that either. They add a element of interest and character. I would definately be putting them up! Sounds like you never liked that light fitting anyway so I think hubby did you a favour. Now you can get one you really like and perhaps with the duvet you can cover most of it up with pillows and a throw at the end of the bed. all the best, Maryann
